1995 - When I Get Free (1992-1996 Lost Tracks)

"When I Get Free" was one of the pre-title for a follow-up to "Me Against the World", that 2Pac planned about whilst he was in prison in 1995. He first choose "Supreme Euthanasia" in september 13, then "Euthanasia" in october 4, then "Euthanasia Supreme", and then "When I Get Free" in november. The tracklists 2Pac wrote show us this transition time between his first project while in jail and the real All Eyez on Me. Some tracks of these lists became songs for All Eyez on Me. Other have been shelved.
After finding his new title, 2Pac was still planning a compilation called "When I Get Free (1992-1996 Lost Tracks)", gathering all the old tracks he re-recorded or remixed when he signed up on Death Row. So this bootleg also contains all these early tracks from the first projects of AEOM.

september 13 : "Supreme Euthanasia" // october 4 : "Euthanasia"

october ?? : "Euthanasia Supreme" 1 & 2 // november : "When I Get Free"

It’s useless to think about reproduce exactly these tracklists. They have never existed like that and things evolued as quick as 2Pac was creating – i.e. each day.

TRACKLIST :

01. Still I Rise feat. Fatal N Felony & Big Syke (chorus) / Johnny J
  • 10/19/95. Remixed in Still I Rise (1999, Death Row). Fatal N Felony was the name of the combo Fatal (Hussein) & Young Hollywood (Kadafi).
02. When I Get Free II [version II] / Johnny J
  • 10/14/95. Remixed in Until The End of Time (2001, Amaru). Re-recorded version of the ’94 song. Supposed to be on october’s "Euthanasia".
03. Don’t Make Enemies With Me [version II] feat. Kastro, Mutah, Big Malc & Young Hollywood  / Live Squad
  • Originally recorded in 1994. Remixed for Death Row in 95 (maybe even while he was in jail...). Erasing the Live Squad’s part sounds as a threat towards them (Stretch will be killed late the same year, the 30th of november... Maybe 2Pac dropped this track after the death of his ex-friend... Supposed to be on almost every pre-versions of AEOM.
04. Late Night [version I] feat. Hussein & Kadafi / Dj Quik
  • 11/13/95. Is it the first or the second recorded version ? I would think that 2Pac, Hussein & Kadafi first recorded it, awaiting for AMG and DJ Quik to write their rhymes. Besides, the Outlawz version is known as a "pre-mix".
05. There U Go [version II] feat. Big Syke, Young Hollywood, K-Dog, Big Malc & Nancy Fletcher / Johnny J
  • 10/24/95.Remixed in Better Dayz (2002, Amaru).
06. Better Dayz [version I] / Johnny J
  • 10/23/95. Published in Better Dayz (2002). We can think that as usual 2Pac firstly recorded the song solo (quicker to write), then with his guests.
07. Where Will I Be [version II] feat. K-Dog, Big Malc, Young Hollywood & Mutah / ?
  • First version of the song was recorded in 1994/1995 for the Dramacydal's shelved album Pleasure of $in. This version got new verses but same from 2Pac.
08. Secretz of War [version I] feat. Fatal N Felony & Kurupt / Johnny J
  • 10/19/95. Fatal N Felony was the name of the duo, when Young Hollywood aka Kadafi from Dramacydal took Fatal (Hussein) with him. It disappeared with Outlawz nicknames. You can hear "1995" in the song and a first explanation about Makaveli concept. The text "Rules" may have been written down in jail. Supposed to be on all the previous tracklists of Euthanasia/When I Get Free firstly just as an introduction and then with a song with various guests.
09. U Can Call feat. Puff Johnson / Johnny J
  • 10/27/95. The following day, Puff Johnson also recorded the hook for "Rather Be Ya Nigga". Notice that she was already singing on the song "Me Against The World".
10. Po' Nigga Blues [version II] feat. Numskull (chorus) / Shock G & Numskull
  • Remixed in Loyal To The Game (2004, Amaru). 2Pac asked Shock G to remix the song he recorded in 92 for The Govenor (produced by DJ Daryl for The Gov's album Floss Mode). Shock G was then working with Numskull of Luniz.
  • Sample : Grover Washington Jr – Just The Two Of Us
11. I'd Rather Be Ya Lover feat. Madonna / Madonna & Dave "Jam" Hall
  • Recorded between february and august 94. Leftover track from Madonna's Bedtime Stories (1994). The track has been taken off because 2Pac was then charged for sexual assault.
  • Sample : Lou Donaldson – It’s Your Thing
12. The Struggle Continues feat. Minister Farrakhan [speaking], Fatal, Big Syke & OFTB /Johnny J
  • 10/24/95. This song starts by a long live recorded speach from the 16th of october from Minister Farrakhan from Nation of Islam.
13. Sucka 4 Love [version II] feat. G-Money / Soulshock & Karlin
  • Remixed in R U Still Down (1997, Amaru). Re-recorded or remixed version of the 1991-1992 song called "What U Won't Do 4 Love". Supposed to be on october’s "Euthanasia".
14. Come With Me (interlude) feat. Danny Boy / Johnny J
  • 10/15/95. Supposed to be on november’s When I Get Free.
15. Wonder Why They Call U Bitch [version II] feat. Faith Evans / Johnny J
  • 10/13/95. 2Pac re-recorded this 1994 track with Biggie’s wife, but Death Row finally imposed his protegĂ© artist Michel’e. Supposed to be on november’s When I Get Free.
16. Fair Exchange [version I] feat. Hurt M Badd & Capucine Jackson / Johnny J
  • 6/11/96. Remixed in Better Dayz (2002, Amaru). Capucine Jackson was the wife of Johnny J.

Bonus tracks

When I Get Free pt. 1 [normal voice mix] / Johnny J
  • Did 2Pac record a second version of this song after the one with the "Souljah" voice, maybe before rewriting the text for When I Get Free II, or it could be just a recent remix with pitched voice... But it's good enough to include it here.
Black Queen (Freestyle) (Run Tha Streetz lost verse) / Johnny J & 2Pac
  • 10/31/95. Lost verse from the original version of "Run Tha Streetz".
