1995 - Me Against The World (Demo & Remix)

When 2Pac has been shot. The Amerikaz Crucify project had changed a lot. It was for sure close to the album Me Against The World, like we know it - of course, the final mix excepted. This final mix has been made while 2Pac was in jail. And it has changed something important : the then impossible features of Stretch and The Notorious B.I.G. behind the mic, but also of Stretch at the production.

With the demo versions of the MATW tracks, we added the demos of "My Block", "Throw Your Hands" and "Thugz Mansion" because they clearly sound from the same period.

Me Against The World (Demo versions)

01. Lord Knows (Demo) feat. Natasha Walker / Brian G

  • 8/9/94. Slightly remixed for Me Against The World (1995, Interscope). The mix has a more "accoustic feeling" here.
02. My Block (Demo) / Easy Mo Bee
  • 1994. Released in The Show OST (1995, Def Jam). This version doesn't have the guests speaking between the verses. Only 2Pac. But it have 2Pac screaming at the beginning (not in the second demo). The released version is an intermediate between the two demos.
  • Sample : Isley Brothers – Don’t Say Goodnight
03. Dear Mama (Demo) / Tony Pizarro
  • 14/7/94. Remixed without the scratched chorus in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope). The famous scratched phrase of Yo-Yo - impossible to clear - will be replaced by a singing hook by Reggie Green.
  • Sample : Ice Cube - It's A Man's World
04. So Many Tears (Easy Mo Bee Mix) feat. Stretch / Easy Mo Bee
  • This is said to be a remix from the original demo of the song released in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope).
05. It Ain't Easy (Demo) / Tony Pizarro
  • 21/8/94. Remixed in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope). This version has a female's chorus and a more "accoustic sound".
06. Runnin' [version II] (Demo) feat. Dramacydal, Stretch, The Notorious B.I.G. & Red Fox / Easy Moe Bee
  • 93-94. Published in One Million Strong (1995, Mergela / Solar). Pac’s verse is different from the first version – re-recorded after Interscope refused the Out on Bail Demo (1993). The chorus is different too - also in a ragga style. The name of the singer is often unknown or erroneous. Some say it is Buju Banton (from the first version), Prince Ital Joe (often with Thug Life), an unknown Don Gorgon or even a so-called "Radio" (because in the common edition of One Million Strong, it was a "clean radio version" and written "Radio" on side of the track to say that it was a censored version...). In fact, it is this time Red Fox, whose first album has been out in 1993 : As A Matter of Fox with Brand Nubian, DJ Premier, Bobby Digital Dixon.
07. If I Die 2nite (Demo) / Easy Mo Bee
  • 3/9/94. Released in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope) without important differences.
  • Samples : Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg – Deep Cover ; Betty Wright – Tonight Is The Night ; Dj Quick – Tonite ; Kleeer – Tonight
08. Can U Get Away (Hot Mix) feat. Eboni Foster / ?
  • 20/9/94. Remixed in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope). It is known as a "mix", not a remix. The way it sounds, it could be a first version of the song, or an alternate version. Maybe it is also produced by Mike Mosley.
09. Pain (Demo) feat. Stretch / Stretch
  • Recorded in 1993. Released in Regulate/Pain (12'') (1994, Death Row), Above The Rim (12'', Cassette) (1994, Death Row). No major change except a regular scratched phrase in the background that have been removed.
10. Outlaw (Demo) feat. Dramacydal & Rah Rah / Moe-ZMD
  • Shortened - without the Rah Rah (raggamuffin female artist) conclusion - in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope).
11. Temptations (Demo) / Easy Mo Bee
  • 30/6/94. Published in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope). The introduction is different (with sound of TV zapping) and also the mix.
12. Dead Homies (Freestyle) feat. The Notorious B.I.G. / -
  • Freestyling at a table, only two good friends in front of the camera.
13. Throw Ya Handz Up (Demo) feat. Killa & Ronnie Love / Moe ZMD
  • Published on Pump Ya Fist OST (1995). Producer and backing vocals were also on MATW. This track is supposed to be a leftover track of MATW. On this version, 2Pac sings on the hook, and it's finally better than the published one !!
14.  Me Against The World (Demo) feat. Dramacydal / Soulshock & Karlin
  • 24/9/94. Released in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope) without major change.
15. So Many Tears (Demo) feat. Stretch / Shock G
  • Edited without Stretch's verse in Me Against The World (1995, Interscope).
16. Dear Mama Hook (skit) / Tony Pizarro
  • This is a lost hook that 2Pac tried himself for the "Dear Mama" song. Too bad that we couldn't hear the full song like that.

Me Against The World (The Remixes)

1. I Get Around (Battlecat Hip-Hop Remix) feat. Digital Underground / DJ Battlecat
  • From I Get Around (12'') (1993, Interscope). In fact, a short edited version of this remix was used as the radio version of the famous song.
2. Papa'z Song (Vibe Tribe Remix) feat. Mopreme / Vibe Tribe
  • From Papa'z Song (12'') (1994).
3. Dear Mama (Baby Mama Remix Extra Clean Version) / Tony Pizarro (?)
  • From Dear Mama Remixes (Promo 12'') (1995). This promo maxi is really rare and unofficial. But the remixes are really good, especially this one. Even in a censored version - some words (just some hard words, because there are almost no bad words in the song) are not pronounced (maybe to use the song at school...) - the song sounds really good. Is it a real production of Tony Pizarro ?
4. Temptations (Battlecat Hip Hop Remix) feat. G-Money / DJ Battlecat
  • From Temptations (12'') (1995).
5. Me Against The World (Soul Power Remix) feat. Dramacydal / Soul Power (Soulshock ?)
  • From Me Against The World (12'') (1995). Is Soul Power Soulshock ? It could be. It could be an alternative version of the song, another demo. In this case, it would mean that with Tony Pizarro, Shock G, Easy Mo Bee, they tried a lot of different things on the album, maybe when 2Pac was in jail.
6. Keep Ya Head Up (Madukey Remix) feat. Dave Hollister / Lea Reis & Moe Doe
  • From Keep Ya Head Up (12'') (1993).
7. Poor Out A Little Liquor (Madukey Remix) / Lea Reis & Moe Doe
  • From Poor Out A Little Liquor (12'') (1994).
8. Cradle To The Grave (Madukey Remix) feat. Thug Life / Lea Reis & Moe Doe
  • From Cradle To The Grave (12'') (1994).
9. Holler If You Hear Me (Broadway Remix) / Stretch
  • From Holla If Ya Hear Me (12'') (1993).
10. Can U Get Away (Reggae Remix) feat. Eboni Foster / ?
  • From an unofficial single : Can U Get Away (12''). Who made this remix ? Maybe it is Mike Mosley himself... Anyway, this version is really interesting and the reggae style fits well with the song.
11. Keep Ya Head Up (Vibe Tribe Remix) feat. Dave Hollister / Vibe Tribe
  • From Keep Ya Head Up (12'') (1993).
12. Me Against The World (Soul Power Hip-Hop Remix) feat. Dramacydal / Soul Power (Soulshock ?)
  • From Me Against The World (12'') (1995). This one is clearly a remix.
13. Dear Mama (Black Queen Club Remix) / Tony Pizarro (?)
  • From Dear Mama Remixes (Promo 12'') (1995).
14. Temptations (Moe-ZMD Remix) / Moe-ZMD
  • I don't know where it is from.
15. So Many Tears (Key of Z Remix) / Moe-ZMD
  • From So Many Tears (12'') (1995, Interscope).

BONUS :
Dear Mama (Moe Z Remix) / Moe-ZMD
  • From Dear Mama (12'') (1995, Interscope).
So Many Tears (Reminizim’ Remix)
  • From So Many Tears (12'') (1995, Interscope)
