1995 - Outlaw Immortalz : Thug Life Volume 2

 Pictures from late 95.
Original line-up of the Outlaw Immortalz : (up) Mopreme, Kastro, Hussein, Big Syke, Edi, (down) 2Pac, Napoleon, Kadafi.

Late 1995 / Beginning 1996.
That was the name of a real project. 2Pac was finishing the recording of All Eyez on Me and was already planing a follow-up to his first Thug Life album with his close friend Big Syke (also with Johnny J...). But part of the original line-up of the group has disappeared (Stretch of course ; Rated R already had justice troubles... Macadoshis ?). At the same time, he started to think about the concept of "Outlaw Immortalz", association between 2Pac/Makaveli, Thug Life, Young Thugs/Dramacydal & Fatal-N-Felony, and started to give new names to his partners after famous (or infamous) dictators.
But in early 96, Mopreme decided to not follow him on Death Row, argued with 2Pac. The project was shelved, but a lot of songs have been recorded.

Later, Big Syke was busy at his own album, the concept was then simplified in "Outlawz", reduced to Dramacydal + Fatal + Storm + Young Noble.

DETAILED TRACKLIST :

DISC ONE
01. What's Next feat. Mopreme, Big Syke, Prince Ital Joe & Natasha Walker [chorus] / Johnny J
  • 11/16/95. Maximum line-up of the old Thug Life formation : Prince Ital Joe & Natasha Walker from YN?-Vee were already on the Out on Bail Demo in 1993. It could still lack Macadoshis, Rated R (condamned for murder), Stretch and The Notorious B.I.G. Remixed in Pac's Life (2006, Amaru).
02. Still Ballin' feat. Kurupt / Johnny J
  • 12/18/95. This is a follow-up to the song from "Thug Life Volume 1" album : "Str8 Ballin'". Kurupt seems to be the substitute of Stretch.
03. Fuck 'Em All feat. Kadafi & Edi / Johnny J
  • 12/12/95. It seems to be an echo of "Fuck All Y'All" but all the world as an enemy has been replaced by a concrete enemy, "them" : Biggie and the Bad Boy crew. (Me Against Them)
04. There U Go [version II] feat. Big Syke, Kastro, Kadafi, Edi, Mr. Malik (Illegal) & Nancy Fletcher / Johnny J
  • 10/30/95. Mr. Malik (of the group Illegal) is featured in the albums of Snoop Dogg (93), Warren G (94) and Dogg Pound (95). So why not with 2Pac ? His part has been added a few days after the other verses.
05. Komradz (So So Crazy) feat. Edi, Napoleon, Kadafi & Big Syke / Johnny J
  • 11/28/95. Storm speaking in the beginning.
06. Fair Exchange [version II] feat. Hurt M Badd & Capucine Jackson [chorus] / Johnny J
  • 11/13/95. That song was not liked by both 2Pac & Johnny J. But was it the first or the second version or both of them ? The first version without the synthe sounded really strange... In my opinion, this second version ok, but what about them ? Tyrone Wrice aka Hurt-M-Badd was linked to Death Row since his tracks with the group B-Rezel in Murder was the Case and Above The Law. He said in an interview that he was even working on the "California Love" chorus before Dre contacted Roger Troutman (in october 95). Capucine Jackson was the wife of... Johnny J !
07. Where U Been feat. Fatal, Mutah, Big Malc, Big Syke & Danny Boy / Johnny J
  •  11/06/95. Here, like in "Still I Rise", Big Syke is just on the hook. But there is also a version with Big Syke's verse but without Pac's one.
08. M.O.B. (Money Over Bitches) feat. Hussein, Mopreme, Big Syke & Edi (Dramacydal) / Kurt Kobane
  • 10/28/95. This song was supposed to be on AEOM, but the mix wasn't ready on time. 2Pac raps some bars in spanish, and kick about the famous name of a gang : MOB (Member of Blood). We could think about the difference with the first conception of "Thug Life" as a code of honor in order to appease the gang war... Now 2Pac have made a choice, have entered the war...
09. Fade Me feat. Kastro, Napolean & Jewell / Johnny J
  • 11/16/95. Sample : D'Angelo's "Lady" (1995). Second time 2Pac uses a D'Angelo sample after the aborted track "Hennessey" (produced by Stretch just before the N-Y shooting).
10. Better Dayz [version II] feat. Big Syke & OFTB / Johnny J
  • 10/23/95. Like for "Late Night", I supposed that 2Pac - quicker for writing - recorded the song in solo before letting Big Syke and OFTB recording their verses.
11. How Do U Want It [original] feat. Natasha Walker [chorus] / Johnny J
  • 11/28/95. Remixed with K-Ci & Jojo on the hook in All Eyez on Me (1996, Death Row). We kept it here because of the Natasha Walker's hook, original singer of Thug Life with her group Y?N-Vee.
12. Hit 'Em Up [version I] feat. Napoleon, Edi, Hussein, Kadafi, Storm & Prince Ital Joe / Johnny J
  • 10/31/95. Sometimes, you can find the title "Hit'em Up 2" but it is the first version of the song. You can hear a piece of the Storm's verse not yet erased in the Demo version of the later version of "Hit' Em Up" (cf. Troublesome, Tha Secretz of War).
13. 6 or 12 (by Kastro, Hussein, Big Syke, Edi & Kadafi) / Johnny J
  •  11/28/95. This short song seems to be uncomplete. Maybe 2Pac was on it, or maybe Mopreme for a whole Thug Life thing.
14. First 2 Bomb feat. Napoleon, Kastro & Edi / Daz
  • Remixed by Daz on Makaveli & Dillinger (1997).

DISC TWO :

01. Soon As I Get Home feat. Kadafi / QD3

  • 12/13/95. Published in its original form in Pac's Life (2006, Amaru).
02. If There's a Cure feat. Snoop Dogg / Johnny J
  • 2/2/96.
03. Changed Man feat. Big Syke & Nate Dogg / Johnny J
  • 2/21/96. Allusion to the movie Carlito's Way (Brian de Palma, 1993), where Al Pacino claimed to the court at the beginning of the movie that he is a "changed man", that the penitentiary has changed him. Remixed in Better Dayz (2002, Amaru).
04. Don't Stop The Music feat. Edi, Hussein & Val Young / Johnny J
  • 11/22/95. Remixed in Pac's Life (2006, Amaru).
05. Letter To My Unborn feat. Natasha Walker [chorus]  / Johnny J
  • 11/27/95. Remixed in Until The End of Time (2001, Amaru).
06. Immortal feat. Kadafi, Hussein, Mopreme & Big Syke / Sam Sneed
  • 1/9/96. Gonzoe of Kausion says that there is another version with him.
07. He Vs. She (4 My Niggaz) feat. Storm / Johnny J & 2Pac
  • 1/13/96. Sort of allegiance to the new 2Pac's Thug Life concept : "My enemies your enemies" ; "Fuck Bad Boy"...
08. Letter To The President feat. Edi, Kastro & Big Syke / QD3
  • 2/22/96. Remixed in Still I Rise (1999, Amaru). It seems there is another version with Kadafi & Hussein.
09. Thug Pound (Initiated) feat. Dogg Pound, Hussein, Kastro & Edi / Daz
  • 12/22/95. Published in the Daz Dillinger's album Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back (1998, Death Row).
10. Never Be Peace feat. Storm & Marvalass (chorus) / Johnny J
  • 1/31/96. Remixed in Better Dayz (2002, Amaru).
11. If They Love Their Kidz feat. Napoleon & Kastro / Johnny J
  •  1/12/96.
12. Penitentiary Bound (by Napoleon, Kastro, Edi, Mopreme & Prince Ital Joe) / Johnny J
  • 11/16/95. This short song seems to be uncomplete. Maybe 2Pac was on it, or maybe Big Syke for a whole Thug Life thing.
13. Play Your Cards Right [version II] feat. Big Syke, Mopreme, Edi, Kadafi & Michel'le / Johnny J
  •  1/10/96. Last track recorded with Mopreme. Remixed in Pac's Life (2006, Amaru).
14. Ambitionz az a Fighta (Mike Tyson Dedication) / Daz
  • 12/14/96. Tyson really loved "Ambitionz az a Ridah" and used to listen it before a fight. That's why 2Pac recorded this version of the song for him.

Bonus Tracks :

Play Your Cards Right [version I] feat. Big Syke, Mopreme, Edi, Kadafi & Hurt M Badd / Johnny J
  • 1/10/96. Mopreme was not anymore on Pac's records after that.
